چکیده

A procedure is described for the determination of selenium in natural waters using cathodic stripping voltammetry in the presence of rhodium. Advantage is taken from a catalytic effect on the electrochemical reduction of protons in the presence of a mixed complex of selenide with rhodium and chloride, containing Cl–Rh–SeH species. The catalysis causes a very large peak-current at a negative peak potential for low (picomolar) selenium concentrations, close to the hydrogen wave. In addition to the selenium concentration, the peak height depends on the concentrations of acid (H+) and chloride, and suffers from strong interference by organic surfactants. Optimised conditions include 0.3 M HCl, 75 ppb Rh(III) and a deposition potential of −0.2 V. UV-digestion was used to eliminate the interference caused by organic material and to convert Se(VI) to Se(IV). A 3σ detection limit of 2.4 pM Se(IV) was calculated from the standard deviation of a low selenium concentration (17 pM) using a deposition time of 50 s. © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. Determination of trace amounts of lead by adsorptive cathodic stripping voltammetry in the presence of xylenol orange

Lead forms the complexes with xylenol orange in the basic solution. An adsorptivedifferential pulse stripping method for the determination of lead is proposed. The procedureinvolves an adsorptive accumulation of lead on a hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE) inthe presence of xylenol orange, followed by reduction of adsorbed lead by voltammetric scanusing differential pulse modulation. The opt...

Simultaneous Adsorptive Stripping Differential Pulse Voltammetric Measurements of Trace Lead, Cadmium and Nickel in the Presence of 2-aminobenzoic Acid

In this study, 2-aminobenzoic acid (ABA) has been used as complexing ligand for simultaneousdetermination of metal ions by adsorptive cathodic stripping voltammetry (AdCSV), for the firsttime. Thus, a selective and sensitive procedure was presented for simultaneous determination oflead, cadmium and nickel using ABA and differential pulse-adsorptive cathodic strippingvolt...

Differential pulse and square-wave cathodic stripping voltammetry of xanthine and xanthosine at a mercury electrode.

The surface activity of xanthine (Xan) and xanthosine (Xano) at a hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE) was studied using out-of-phase ac and cyclic dc voltammetry. The results show that Xan and Xano were strongly adsorbed and chemically interacted with the charged mercury surface, which is the prerequisite step for applying the cathodic adsorptive stripping voltammetric determination of such b...

Determination of picomolar levels of iron in seawater using catalytic cathodic stripping voltammetry.

A new procedure for the direct determination of picomolar levels of iron in seawater is presented. Cathodic stripping voltammetry (CSV) is preceded by adsorptive accumulation of the iron(III)-2,3-dihydroxynaphthalene (DHN) complex from seawater, containing 20 microM DHN at pH 8.0, onto a static mercury drop electrode, followed by reduction of the adsorbed species. The reduction current is catal...

Determination of Iron and Its Redox Speciation in Seawater Using Catalytic Cathodic Stripping Voltammetry

Existing electrochemical methods for the determination of iron require long deposition times to determine low iron levels. Here a new method, based on catalytic cathodic stripping voltammetry, is described to determine subnanomolar levels of iron in seawater. The new method has a better baseline and is generally simplified, leading to a lower reagent blank and minimized sample handling compared...
